Yellow Tourmaline Gemstone

Tourmaline is a fascinating semi precious gemstone. The most important characteristic of this gemstone is that it comes in more colours than any other gemstone. Pink, green, blue, red and even multi coloured tourmalines are also found. Yellow is also one of the various colours of Tourmaline. Yellow Tourmaline is also called as ‘Dravite’ and comes in brown to pale yellow colour. In 2000 in southern East Africa, in Malawi, a gemstone deposit with some wonderful yellow tourmalines was discovered.

Gemstone quality of this type of tourmaline is hard to find and the recently mined bright yellow tourmalines are called canary tourmalines. They are clear and pure and have a very fine hint of green in them. These gems are highly treasured by gemstone collectors. Fine traces of magnesium are responsible for its electrifying hue. Those crystals that do not show the radiant yellow colour are heat treated to obtain the desired colour. Large yellow tourmaline stones are hard to find. The have a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Moh’s scale.

Yellow Tourmaline also possesses certain healing and metaphysical properties. It is said to heighten intelligence and is considered good for business. It is also associated with vitality and joy due to its colour.
